Juicy Reads:Successful Women Speak Differently

When reading through my January issue of Essence Magazine. There was a book recommended for anybody whose resolution was, “to fulfill my dreams“. The short and sweet write-up promised that “this manual will motivate you to listen for God’s voice in your life– one overflowing with purpose and fulfillment“. I was intrigued and like the other two books mentioned, placed a star next to it as a reminder  to include it in my ever-growing -“to read” list.

A few days later as I was once again scrolling on Amazon Prime, I remembered I had some books I needed to read from Essence Magazine. I initially went back to specifically save Sheri Riley’s new book, whose featured article in the magazine really captured my mind and had me high-lightening almost every word. Although as I was  placing  her book in my cart , I got side-tracked and by the time I had resumed my task I some how was taken back to the page that mentioned Valorie Burton’s, Successful Women Speak Differently: 9 Habits That Build Confidence, Courage, and Influence, and purchased that book over my intended purchase.

Call it favor or a distraction but i’m BEYOND glad I was able to take in the lesson and wisdom in this book. As it teaches the art of communication through known knowledge. Although it provides a context that enables the reader to fully understand just why the successful woman speaks as she does. While additionally challenging the reader to coach and question if the habits she suggests are being put to their fullest use.

The top 3 tips I picked up in order to demonstrate communication in a successful life was

  • REACTION VS RESPONSE
  • SHOW UP & BE PRESENT
  • SPEAK A GRAIN OF TRUTH

The explanation surrounding these 3 keys with the corresponding coaching question revealed some inadequacies in certain areas of my life that were keeping me from my purpose. Which is extremely important when considering Burton’s  idea of success which is, “a harmony of purpose, resilience, and joy.”

I still am looking forward to Sheri Riley’s book and can’t wait to delve in.

Although I must admit I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Burton’s text and the tough questions it requires i ask of myself as i attain more success. As a result I went and purchased her novel prior to this entitled, Successful Women Think Differently: 9 Habits to Make You Happier, Healthier, and More Resilient!

I couldn’t recommend this text enough, and if you’ve read the book let me know what you think!
